Compulsion is a series in which Alex Prager explores subversive narratives through the construction of scenes inspired by tragedies depicted in the media and paired with emotive close-ups of eyes. Casting a wide range of visual references, she manipulates the scenes through her choice of cropping, continually interrogating the truth content within photography - a trope as old as the medium itself. Her images feel real because they are familiar, and because they reference something that we feel is real, familiar. At the same time, they are not.
