Il Segreto: la cavalletta nella vernice. Benché all'epoca fosse ricoverato in manicomio, Vincent van Gogh era stato autorizzato a dipingere all'aperto. Un esame del dipinto nel 2017 ha rivelato che parte di una testa, zampa e corpo di una cavalletta sono rimasti invisibilmente imprigionati nella pittura.
